Tim Kirkman's Loggerheads

Hunt and I went to see Tim Kirkman's film Loggerheads. A really great film shot in North Carolina which shows off Asheville a bit. She looks really great on film. They really should film here more. Tess Harper, Bonnie Hunt, Michael Learned, Chris Sarandon are in it. An excellent cast. Anyway, Tim Kirkman did a film Dear Jesse about Jesse Helms, gay rights, relationships, etc. He also filmed The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me.

Tim Kirkman is a sweet man who's totally sweet and down-to-earth. His film is lovely. A good script with beautiful cinematography. The same cinematographer who did The Station Agent.

I'll post some more good tidbits about this when I get back to work...TOMORROW!! EEEK! The holidays are over! Good and bad. I'm not ready for the days off to be over, but will go back to work for a shortened week and then there's always Martin Luther King's birthday! Another three days....hmmmm....

Someone's dog wants to be taken out. Going to start my day.

HUMBUG!!

Christmas is here! It is Christmas Eve, so I thought I'd share some of my favorite family moments.

Dad was never in a good mood after working all day at the broken down savings and loan. Mr. Potter always gave him a hard time. Here I am on the bottom left. I liked feeling his tweeds.
Here is Uncle Clark with me after a few drinks.

In later years he liked us to dress up. We are all drunk.

My wife and I like to show our affection for one another around the holiday. We like to swap spit and give each other botox injections. She accuses me of bogie-ing the syringe, though. We fight a little in the hot tub, but make up in our matching flight jackets.

Merry Christmas to all! May your medications last until the pharmacies re-open!

Love, Waylon

Dear Junie,

Dear Junie,

I'm near about pooped out. Lord, Lord, little Stevie got down the bottle of George Dickel that I had put way up in the spice cabinet. Before I'd got to him he had the drunk about two or three shots! Good thing that that old gal from Child Protective Services didn't come by. Well, it was a quiet afternoon.

I have just now finished stringin' up the last of the new lights. I just went ahead and plugged the ones that were already on the house in and took the scissors to the ones that didn't work. Yes, I left them lights up from last year! There are those women who frown on this, but I say why make the bed when it's just gonna be messed up again the next day? People kill me with these holidays as if they're sacred or somethin!

Little Stevie's daddy is comin' by in a short while. Can you come over? Can't stand tryin' to make up nice things to say about that man and his new wife. All I want to know is if the check is in the mail. If you can come can you come by soon so it looks like you were already here? I'm makin' coffee. Little Stevie's gonna wired for sound!

Princess

Go see King Kong!

Hunt and I went to see "King Kong" last night. Go see it, but don't take the kids. It's extremely violent and...you know...the gorilla dies at the end. Duh!

Naomi Watts can do just about anything! She's great! A great popcorn movie. Lots of special effects and great moviesque characters. You're always reminded you're watching a Hollywood movie.

Thought I'd mention it.

Sporty side provided by Kristen

Here I am in a sea kayak! I saw a seal that day. Who says that I'm not a friend of the Earth? Look at those pipes!

So a couple of days before Christmas. I hope that everyone is ready to drink and make passes at their siblings' "date". If you have an unpleasant domestic drama...don't come cryin' to me. I warned you to stay away from your family on the holiday. It never works out. Oh, no, that's only my family. You keep on believin' friend!

Yes. I lived in Seattle. Yes. I learned an outdoor skill or two. You know. I even climbed Mt. Daniel. I didn't go to the actual peak. I passed out on a lower meadow and let the rest ascend. I did climb as high in tallus and shale as I wanted to. So, for those of you who don't believe that I'm "outdoorsy"....Kristen Smith provides proof. Here I am on two! Count them...two!...store outtings (two t's?) Thanks Kristen for providing the tools to enhance my sporty side. This is us at Mt. Rainier. Brad, his wife, Wendy (freshies!) Crabb and I'm not sure about whom I'm mauling. There was nothing romantic about it...even though we do make a cute couple.

Brokeback is opening!

"I wish I could quit you!"

Merry Christmas to all of us! Elton John got married to his pardner yesterday in London! Congrats Elton!

Opening on Christmas Day! Will this change life as we know it? Take your husband and let's see. Brokeback Mountain: The Movie

I CAN'T QUIT YOU!

I'm conflicted about Christmas. Always. Every year. I set myself up for success. I put a little tree up, I put lights up outside. I send a personalized card. My nephews and nieces get presents. I go to Target. This year I even had a party. It's all so exhausting!

I wish I could be one of the cool people: those of you who are non-conformist. I know some of these people! Those who ignore the entire thing and shop after Christmas. People who eat take-out Indian food. I wish I could be one of those people. I could take a pill and wake up after the new year. Now there's a holiday!

Maybe it's because I read Dickens as a young boy. I don't know. However I try, I can't kick this habit. Celebrating Christmas. I mean...I must have lights and a little tree. I must have cards. I must have Target runs. These are basics and I wish I didn't get a warm, fuzzy feeling from sitting with all the lights up except for the tree with a glass of something in my hand. I do like giving presents more than receiving. I like to see excitement in kids' faces. I like pajamas on Christmas morning and champagne and soup on Christmas Eve. Like those boys from "Brokeback Mountain"....I CAN'T QUIT YOU, CHRISTMAS! I CAN'T QUIT YOU!

Knob Creek Evening

So, I'm partial to bourbon around the holidays. I enjoy red wine, but a good cocktail is a good cocktail. So Tom. Dear, sweet Tom Chalmers brought a bottle of Knob Creek with him. He's a good elf. (Tom's show of "The Santaland Diaries" sold out! Tonight there were 20 seats left for the 8pm show. Come to the 10pm show! We'll be there!) I digress....

Almost everyone came. Some were MIA and their loss...The gumbo was a hit! We had an awfully good time. A late party with the guests not going home 'til 2am. Nothing too debauched (I don't count the Tab cocktail napkin incident) The house did look lovely and the dogs were well-behaved. What else could you want?

Thanks Jane Sobie for my wonderful wine bottle stuffed with Christmas lights. Who knew?

No more parties for awhile. Yours truly is ready for his long winter's nap.

The Weather Outside is Frightful

This is the top of Mt. Mitchell. Mostly ice and fog and oh, dreariness!

Here on the ground in Asheville it was a disgusting morning. An ice storm! Such a nasty thing. A glaze on everything. I hate glazes. Even on desserts. Enough with glazing things. As if everything is being daintily brushed with frozen water. You couldn't really even call it ice. Such a cowardly display of nature. And very distructive. A sucker punch in the back! Give me anything, but the wet, cold, frozen mud and muck!

O.K. I'm done and go back to work and then home to ready myself for the party. Tomorrow night. I'm excited and stressed. Having a good party requires some work. More on that later.

Hunt is here and is making gumbo! We'll have NOLA refugee gumbo at the party. A great treat! I'll let you know how it goes.

SANTALAND IS OPENING!

Countdown to Christmas

So I'm completely fried with Christmas. Cards have been sent out, trips to Michael's done and Christmas decor is a decor as it's going to be. I CAN'T GO TO TARGET ONE MORE TIME!! Serious overload. I stood in the middle of the groovy ornament section and wanted to go lie down in bikes. There's too much color, too much music...too, too much. But what if your nephew wants a certain book...you have to go to Target. It's either that or Barnes and Noble and...I'm completely over them. And the internet? Well, they don't get anything there on time. Not the book people..unless you pay the amount of shipping that COSTS MORE THAN THE BOOK!

Oh, and I'm having a party Friday night. My first party in Asheville. A Christmas party. Couldn't I have started with a cookout. Jenny and Scott (alphabetical order) give these world famous parties. (Anyone remember "The Old Whore" party or "Wolfest 2005"? How to live up to the legend? Well, I've brought in Hunt Scarritt to make his world famous gumbo. (Gettin out the big guns). Also, I'm concentrating on a good mix of Christmas and dance music.

Tonight is baking night. I have to fix cookies and pre-stuff, so I'm not caught Thursday night buying the nasty bakery items at the grocery store. (Forgive me, they have the best coconut cake) Wish me luck that I don't completely poop out. Oh, and Merry Christmas.

I'm up and running...again!

So Kristen wanted me to get back to my blog. So...here I am. I'm a new blogger, so I wasn't aware that if you didn't do it everyday, people wouldn't read any longer. For shame.

I am now the Site Supervisor for the Eastern National for the Folk Art Center in the Blue Ridge Parkway National Park. Basically I run an information desk/bookstore. I'm quite happy with the job so far. It combines the retail experience that I have with nature and non-profit. A better gig than the mall!

Alphie, Jeff and Sawyer have gone off to Puerto Rico, so I'm renting their house. A good gig for me. I'm finally unpacked and have gotten Christmas up and running. I have to say, I'm proud of the job we've all done getting it together.

O.K....So Kristen, this entry's for you. Kristen just got back from Chile. Biking! Good show Kristen!

Oh! I just recently closed a show at Asheville Community Theatre. I played John Curtis in the world premiere of Dearly Beloved. Coming to a theratre near you. That means I was the first one to play him. Look for my name in the Dramtist's edition coming soon. This is me with Michael Pruitt playing Dub Dubberly. Yes!

So now I've updated you a bit. Hunt's on his way to spend the holidays with me. You remember him. He was the one that was in Hurricane Katrina. Anyway, he's coming north and we should see him in a few days.
