WATERROCK KNOB is open

We are open for business on the Blue Ridge Parkway!
It's been a high stress week, but we're on the downhill slope. Now, we only await the Park Rangers with baited breath. This is the bear from the store. He's ferocious!
This is the store itself. No. It's not a maintenance shed! It's 34 degrees outside in this picture on April 26th.

Waterrock Knob is open! One of the best views in the park! Also, the first or last visitor center on the Parkway depending on which way you're going. We've already done some great business and I'm very happy with how the store turned out.

For the first time since I started working, the entire 469 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway is open. You can go from end to end.

We love Alli Marshall

Judy Blume keeps on blooming
—Alli Marshall, A&E reporter
by Alli Marshall on 04/04/2007

Hot on the heels of ACT’s performance of Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing (tween novelist Judy Blume’s tale of elementary-school angst and sibling rivalry), BeBe Theatre (20 Commerce St., Asheville) gears up to host Run Amok Productions’ version of another Blume classic: Forever.
First published in 1975, Forever begins with the line, “Sybil Davison has a genius I.Q. and has been laid by at least six different guys.” In case you’re not following, it’s a story about the first time. Or, as Blume explains on her Web site, “My daughter Randy asked for a story about two nice kids who have sex without either of them having to die.” Seems simple enough, but the taboo subject (like so much of Blume’s adolescent material) earned the book banned status.
In fact, Young Adult author Blume had five books on the American Library Association’s list of the 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 1990–2000, and is known as the most banned author in America.
So, three decades later, Run Amok Productions is asking, “Caftans, key parties, fondue, and… Ralph??” Josh Batenhorst, Wesley Bolden, Scott Bunn, Sarah Carpenter, Tabatha Hall, Beth Herrman, Katie Kasben, Emily Miller, Betsy Puckett, Ricky Webb, and Waylon Wood star in this tale of sexual awakening. Tom Chalmers directs.
The show runs Fridays and Saturdays, April 6 & 7 and 13 & 14 at 8 p.m. All tickets are $10. 350-9696 for reservations (seating is limited). For mature audiences only.

FOREVER is not forever

FOREVER by Judy Blume is over. Run Amok's first production had sold-out houses and disappointed, last-minute audiences who had to be turned away! I am humbled by the entire experience of being in a great ensemble, with a very funny play, being directed by a very funny man.

I think Judy Blume would've been proud or outraged. I would hope proud as we staged a parody of a book that is forever challenged. One strike for free speech! Judy, if you're reading, we missed you.

Mrs. Haley rocked the house on occassion. She is thinking of her own show. A cabaret touring some of the better dinner theatres and cocktail bars in our fair country.

Thanks to all who came and supported our first effort! We were honored!

Look for more from Run Amok!
(Wanted to include a picture of me without the wig and sunglasses for those who might want to date me. PLEASE TAKE ME TO DINNER!)
